RoHS is the European Union directive for the Restriction of Hazardous Substances. It was created in response to environmental and health concerns related to the various substances listed below. The RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC states:

"Member States shall ensure that, from 1 July 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market does not contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)."

This directive applies to electrical/electronic equipment, and their component parts, sold into the European Union. Similar restrictions are also expected to be enacted in other countries (China, Japan, etc.) and US states (California) very soon as well.

However, in general, monitoring and control equipment such as those manufactured by SIXNET are currently exempt from the RoHS directive. Though this is the case, SIXNET is still voluntarily committed to making many of our industrial products compliant. SIXNET has collaborated with our circuit board vendors, component suppliers and contract manufacturers to design, convert or produce RoHS compliant products. All the products listed below that are manufactured after 1 July, 2006 and marked "RoHS Compliant" are compliant with the RoHS directive:

WEEE is the European Union directive for the Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment. The goal of WEEE is to reduce the waste from this class of equipment through recycling and reuse in order to improve the overall environmental impact. The WEEE Directive 2002/96/EC states:

"The purpose of this Directive is, as a first priority, the prevention of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and in addition, the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of such wastes so as to reduce the disposal of waste. It also seeks to improve the environmental performance of all operators involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment, e.g. producers, distributors and consumers and in particular those operators directly involved in the treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment."

To meet the requirements of WEEE, SIXNET is marking all applicable products with the "wheelie bin" symbol (shown above to the right) to indicate that they should be properly recycled. Also, SIXNET has instituted a "take back" program to allow the recycling of old SIXNET products. To return products for recycle please contact SIXNET for a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number and the specific "take back" instructions for your region.
