Transparent
industrial Linux
The
Linux operating system inside an IPm
Controller or RTU will remain completely transparent to most
users who will simply benefit from its powerful
standard features. You don’t need to know what operating system
is in the PLCs you use – the same is true for an IPm controller
– you just use it. IPm controllers are completely configured using
easy-to-use Windows Tools. Just take a look at the SIXNET
I/O Tool Kit software.
This
“transparent LINUX” hides inside the IPm controller and makes
possible many of its advanced features,
such as the many Ethernet capabilities. Many products you use
in your home and office have embedded
LINUX engines inside. If you are using a hardware firewall
box on your computer, there is a good chance that there is LINUX
inside – you just don’t see these details. The same is true for
an IPm controller.
The
transparent LINUX inside your IPm controller or RTU gives you
the peace of mind of knowing that a special
I/O driver or application program can be added should the
need arise. The LINUX open-source
core makes an IPm controller the world’s first truly open
automation platform. Open
systems avoid risks and insure future compatibility.

| Develop
IPm applications in Windows
Even
if you need to develop applications programs for an IPm controller,
you still don’t need to know very much about LINUX. You don’t
even need to have a computer that runs LINUX programs. You can
write programs for an IPm controller and compile them on a Windows
computer. The LINUX is embedded in the IPm controller, not necessarily
on your desk. For more information, look at Writing
IPm Applications and the IPm
Application Development Kit. |
