PPP and Port Forwarding |
|
| PPP
or “point-to-point protocol” transports IP messages
over serial links and in effect makes a telephone modem or radio
into a speed reduced Ethernet connection. Everyone that connects
to the Internet via a telephone modem uses PPP. Configuration screens
(see image below) in the I/O
Tool Kit allow you to configure the PPP agent that has been
integrated into the IPm firmware. The I/O Tool Kit v2.3 and IPm
firmware v1.6 or later are required and may be downloaded
at no charge. Registered I/O Tool Kit users may purchase a license
to use this add-on software directly from SIXNET. This one license
may be used with any number of IPm units owned by the same licensee.

| PPP
(Point to Point Protocol) allows you to: |
-
Connect
to the Internet (or intranet) over a modem, radio or other
serial device. PPP effectively turns a serial port into a
speed reduced Ethernet connection.
-
Add
port forwarding to an IPm station with this
powerful software enhancement. Pass messages through Ethernet
and serial port or forward messages from wireless links, or
phone connections. Pass multiple protocols, simultaneously,
through the same serial link through the power of ‘ppp’
message packeting. Multiple hops are easily set up through
a simple hierarchy of subnet masks. The I/O Tool Kit is used
to quickly configure your "passthru" connections.
