 Redundant Datalogging
Never Lose Important Data Again!

SIXNET has added a new dimension of reliability and ease-of-use to historical record keeping. Now you can log data, even in remote locations, and have it automatically transfer to redundant data servers, to insure that you never again lose important data archives.

At each location, a RemoteLog or IPm RTU functioning as an intelligent datalogger, gathers plant floor data and stores it in local protected memory along with an accurate timestamp.

Then, on a schedule you select, or upon a significant event (such as an alarm), the data is batch uploaded to one or more central server and stored in standard ASCII text (.csv) files. These files are organized by daily, weekly or monthly files as you prefer. By sending the data to two low cost Windows computers, redundant archives are formed – insuring the reliable storage of your important data. Today’s high capacity hard drives in each of these redundant computers retain data from any number of data sources or remote locations. Any commercially available back up system (UPS) can be used to further protect the data.

Telephone lines, Ethernet connections or the Internet may be used to link these high-reliability dataloggers to the servers that archive your data. These dataloggers act as data clients complete with security features, non-volatile (permanent) memory and the ability to safely send data through a firewall. Intelligence in each front-end datalogger keeps track of the successful transfer of data. In the event of a loss of communications, data is archived locally until communications is restored.

Data is retained in the datalogger itself for perhaps months (duration depends on the application) so that the datalogger forms an additional backup for your data.

This new generation of high reliability dataloggers is remarkably easy to use. New dataloggers can be quickly installed and self-configure the server to accept their data the first time they log in. A data view feature permits you to safely look at the stored data files using Excel (or other common spreadsheet program) in read-only mode.

These dataloggers can also detect and report alarms and act as I/O interfaces to your SCADA and control systems. SIXNET IPm controllers and RTUs are fully programmable and are Linux-based to enable you to create your own application programs.

Source code for the data interface is available to OEMs and software vendors who wish to take advantage of this truly open technology. SIXNET caters to OEMs.

These redundant dataloggers may be used to meet FDA, EPA or other agency requirements. They are ideal for logging process or environmental data and may be used outdoors or in hazardous locations. (SIXNET RTUs are rated for –40 to 70 °C operation in Zone 2 locations.)

For smaller applications look at the RemoteLog. For more demanding applications, we suggest the Linux-based VersaTRAK IPm. The SIXNET I/O Tool Kit software includes point-and-click configuration tools and the datalog server utility, complete as an integrated software suite.
