If
you need to go beyond the plug and play simplicity, the Real-time
Ring™ Switches
can be configured for some advanced capabilities that are usually
found only in managed switches. An easy to use Windows software
utility is provided to enable these extra features. They include:
Configurable
port settings – Allows you to set the speed, duplex
and flow control. (see
screen shot)
Ring
settings – Change which ports are used to make your
ring, or you can enable up to two
rings. (see
screen shot)
Priority
queuing for traffic prioritization – Ensures that
your priority messages (such as
I/O control data) always get delivered first. Standard QoS, CoS
and ToS/DiffServ mechanisms
are used to prioritize, tag and untag your messages. (see
screen shot)
Broadcast
storm protection – Too many unwanted broadcast messages
can quickly bring your network
down. This feature will simply limit the number of broadcast messages
that get through to prevent
them from overloading your network. (see
screen shot)
Port
mirroring for diagnostics – This advanced feature
makes it possible (using third party
network analyzer software) to monitor the Ethernet messages on any
port in the switch. Port mirroring
allows the messages from one or more source ports to be copied to
one or more target ports. (see
screen shot)
Status
monitoring utility – This convenient utility shows
you the ring, power and port status
of each ring switch in your network. It makes it easy to narrow
down and diagnose problems.

Modbus
over Ethernet status monitoring – This is a SIXNET
exclusive feature. See the next
page of the tour for details.
