Ethernet Port Wiring
Use data-quality (not voice-quality) twisted pair cable rated category 5 with standard RJ45 connectors. Please note that these cables are available in straight-thru or cross-over configurations.
The following SIXNET Ethernet products have auto-crossover detection and therefore will accept either type of Ethernet cable (straight-thru or cross-over):
VersaTRAK IPm, all models
Mini-VersaTRAK mIPm, all models
Micro-VersaTRAK µIPm, all models
SixTRAK IPm, all models
ST-GT-1210 I/O Controller
Most SIXNET Ethernet Switches
For all other SIXNET Ethernet products, follow the charts below to know when to use each cable type.
The RJ45 connector bodies on many SIXNET Ethernet products are metallic and are connected to the Chassis GND terminal. Therefore, shielded Ethernet cables may be used with these products to provide the best performance. To prevent ground loops, the cable shield should be tied to the metal connector body at one end of each cable only.
