RS232 Port Wiring (RJ45 to DB9)
The information in this topic applies to the following SIXNET products only:
VersaTRAK IPm RS232 ports A and B
Mini-VersaTRAK mIPm RS232 port B
Micro-VersaTRAK µIPm RS232 port B
SixTRAK IPm RS232 ports A and B
SixTRAK I/O Controller (ST-GT-1210) RS232 port
EtherTRAK I/O Concentrator (ET-GT-ST-2) RS232 port
Dual Ethernet Gateway (ET-GT-ST-3) RS232 port
RemoteLog serial version (SR-4160-1S-1) RS232 port
The products above are supplied with at least one RJ45 to DB9 adapter.
When connecting a modem, insert the colored wires of the RJ45 to DB9 male adapter into the appropriate sockets of the DB9 male connector according to the table below. Then plug the adapter’s DB9 male connector directly onto the DB9 RS232 port of a VT-MODEM-xxx. Connect a straight-through Ethernet cable between the SIXNET RJ45 port and the RJ45 to DB9 male (modem) adapter.
When connecting a PC there are two choices:
Connect a straight-through Ethernet cable between the SIXNET RJ45 port and the prewired RJ45 to DB9 female adapter (part number: RJ45-DB9F-IPM).
Insert the colored wires of the unwired RJ45 to DB9 female adapter into the appropriate sockets of the DB9 female connector according to the second table below. Plug the adapter’s female DB9 connector onto your PC.
The RJ45 serial port connector bodies on some SIXNET products are metallic and are connected to the Chassis GND terminal. Therefore, shielded cables may be used to provide further protection. To prevent ground loops, the cable shield should be tied to the metal connector body at one end of the cable only.
Note: The SIXNET RJ45 port pinouts are EIA/TIA-561 compliant.
