RM-232-Setup Usage Tips
This module plugs into the base of a RemoteTRAK or EtherTRAK I/O module. Configuration information is written into the EEROM (permanent memory) in the base. When the I/O module is returned to the base, the configuration information is automatically found and the module instantly begins to operate.
Live Systems
The RM-232-Setup does not connect to the RS485 or Ethernet wiring on the base and therefore does not interfere with the normal operation of a live system.
Highly Recommended for RemoteTRAK or EtherTRAK
This Setup module is a highly recommended accessory for RemoteTRAK and EtherTRAK I/O. Although you can configure a RemoteTRAK or EtherTRAK module through the RS485 wiring, most users find the Setup module far more convenient. If you accidentally set the RemoteTRAK or EtherTRAK module to an unknown communications mode, you may need the Setup module to properly recover.
Supply Power
The setup module takes power from the module’s base. 10 to 30 volt DC power must be present on terminals 17 and 18 of the base in order for this Setup module to operate.
Module Serial Numbers
This Setup module automatically reads the serial number stored in the wiring base it is plugged into and records this information in the SIXNET I/O Tool Kit when a configuration load occurs. It is not necessary to enter the serial number in the SIXNET I/O Tool Kit software if this Setup module is used. Serial numbers are stored in the configuration file when a file save operation in your computer is performed.
Electrical Isolation
The RS232 port on this Setup module is electrically isolated from the wiring in the module’s base to protect your computer from wiring errors in the base.
