The master station can be any IPm station, VersaTRAK RTU, programmable SixTRAK gateway, I/O controller (ST-GT-1210) or ET-GT-ST-# Ethernet I/O concentrator. I/O Transfers can be performed using one or more communication ports (RS232, RS422 / RS485, Ethernet). ISaGRAF programming is not required unless control decisions are needed.
Remote stations can be any combination of SIXNET stations and I/O modules. Modbus compatible devices are also supported.
I/O Transfers can be performed over telemetry equipment (satellite, radio links etc...) and over direct cabling.
Each I/O move can run continuously at its own update rate and can be controlled by its own event signal.
SIXNET Universal protocol and Modbus ASCII and RTU protocols are supported for serial I/O Transfers. Each serial port may be configured for either SIXNET Universal protocol or Modbus protocol, but not both.
Over Ethernet, IPm stations with version 1.5 or newer firmware can run SIXNET UDP / TCP I/O Transfers and Modbus UDP / TCP I/O Transfers. IPm stations with earlier firmware, and other programmable SIXNET stations, can run SIXNET UDP I/O Transfers only. Most SIXNET stations and I/O modules will automatically respond to both SIXNET Universal protocol messages and Modbus protocol messages received through their Ethernet port.
Assign a fixed IP address in each station that will be sending or receiving I/O Transfer messages. These types of messages require fixed IP addresses and do not support DHCP.
